Ahora que los salones de peluquería están cerrados, recordé a la celebérrima obra "Medusa", del año 1597.
Hablando en serio, para apreciar mejor esta pintura es importante conocer sus antecedentes. Una gorgona es una criatura femenina aterradora de la mitología griega, y Medusa era una gorgona con melena de serpientes. Era tan repulsiva, que quien la miraba, se convertía en piedra.
Perseo, el héroe griego, recibió un escudo de la diosa Atenea para que pudiera evitar mirarla mientras la decapitaba.
Aquí la vemos retratada justo en el momento del autoreconocimiento cuando, todavía consciente, se da cuenta de que su cabeza y su cuerpo ya no eran uno. De ahí el horror en sus ojos.
Este es un maravilloso ejemplo del enfoque que Caravaggio pone en la expresión fisionómica o facial en sus obras. El maestro utiliza contrastes oscuros y claros con tanta eficacia que Medusa se ve tridimensional.
Questo dipinto mi ha sempre suggerito inquietudine, lo stesso effetto che provo nel guardare L'urlo di Munch. L'espressione denuncia un'indicibile sofferenza, unita allo sgomento e al terrore, tutte sensazioni che coinvolgono in modo negativo un osservatore come me. Comunque grazie per averlo postato, per me rimane sempre un capolavoro considerato che l'artista è riuscito nel suo intento, almeno con me.

I remember the mythology well from my lessons as a young student, many, many years ago. She certainly is not the woman you want to kiss, and that's even if you can avoid being turned to stone!
